Tom Lapp is an open source advocate, deploying Linux solutions for the past 5 years,
administering Linux mail systems and web servers.
He is currently a system administrator for a 1000+ node network.
Tom is also a systems support specialist for a SAMBA project, using Linux file servers
in Windows networks. Tom holds a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from
Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, Bloomington.
Garrett Held is an Information Security Consultant for his own Indianapolis-based company,
Anthony Security LLC, as well as working with Infotex Corporation for larger projects.
He has over 6 years of experience with successful technology start-ups and specializes
in intrusion detection, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing.
Garrett is currently working towards a certification involving HIPAA Security.

Kim Brand is the President of Computer Experts, Inc and Managing Partner of
Server Partners, LLC. He has published
two books: Common C Functions by Que in 1986 and ZOPE: Web Application Development
and Content Management by New Riders in 2001.
An open source advocate and entrepreneur, he is inventor of the 'file-engine', a
rental server concept. He holds a BS from Purdue University and has twenty-five years
experience in software/systems development and is a consultant to public, private,
and government clients.

Kevin Erdman practices primarily in the fields of information, internet and intellectual property (patent, trademark and
copyright) law. He has represented clients (including start-ups and multi-national corporations) in internet business protection
matters such as obtaining U.S. and foreign patents, domain name disputes, software and content licensing, distribution and development
agreements, electronic commerce agreements and procedures, privacy policies, patent licensing, and trademark and copyright registration,
licensing, and litigation. In the Life Sciences area he has represented medical technology and bioinformatics companies in patent and
agreement transactions. He also is involved with the Firm’s e-commerce and privacy initiatives.

Dr. Marion Schafer spent the first half of his career in industry gaining real-world experience.
This experience has been a valuable asset in helping students understand how things really work as
well as the theories of how they should work. Dr. Schafer is frequently asked to assist companies
with packaging problems, and to serve as an expert in legal proceedings involving packaging and
distribution issues.

Bill Nicewanger received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Rose-Hulman
and an MBA degree from Indiana University. After successful experience as the president
of a small communications contractor, Nicewanger, in 1974, co-founded and became
President of a business telecommunications company. In 1982 the company was
recognized by INC Magazine as a member of the INC 500, the 500 fastest growing
privately held businesses in America. The company employed 285 people in 8
offices in 2 states. In the years between 1974-1996 the company acquired six
businesses, launched four new businesses or divisions and sold portions or
divisions to Northern Telecom, U.S. West, Cincinnati Bell Telephone Long Distance
and Inter-Tel, Inc. In 2002, Mr. Nicewanger became an Innovation Fellow for Rose-Hulman
Ventures. In this part-time role he has conducted evaluations of RHV applicants
and participated in counseling RHV’s early stage business clients. Mr. Nicewanger
was a member of the Board of Trustees of his undergraduate alma mater, Rose-Hulman,
from 1992 to 1996 and is active in fund raising for the Institute. Presently he is
President and CEO of Elastic Image Inc., a developer of specialized technology for the
distortion of graphics onto 3D plastic products.

Nick Mahurin is one of Terre Haute's own serial entrepreneurs. Graduating from Rose-Hulman
1989 with a B.S. Mechanical Engineering, Nick started Computer Solutions,
which continues to operate as CS Technology Center providing computer network
engineering, administration and support consulting services. He started XSNet
in 1998, an Internet service provider providing Dial-up, DSL, and Wireless service
to the Terre Haute community. XSNet was purchased by Joink in 2004.
Never one to sit still, Nick started InfraWare in 2003 to provide hosted
document management solutions including speech recognition medical transcription
services. InfraWare is located in the Rose-Hulman Ventures facility. Nick is also a
founding member of IllianaTech.

Margaret has 17 years of experience in the design and development of information
systems for a variety of clients. She formed Triledge, Inc. in 1999 to provide
services in assisting clients' needs to effectively gather, store and retrieve
information from the vast amounts of data available in any organization. Margaret
holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Dayton,
as well as a Bachelor of Science from Bowling Green State University, with specialization
in the areas of Management Information Systems and International Business. In 2004 she
earned the designation of Project Management Professional from the Project Management
Institute, an internationally recognized professional credential for Project Management.

Linux as an Alternative Desktop

Jacqueline has over 20 years in the IT field working as a network administrator, programmer,
educator and course developer. Presently she creating interactive courses on CD for
Vincennes University students that are serving in the Navy and teaching computers
in the Indiana Prison system.
